The Lipno Dam is a waterworks built on the Vltava River in 1952-1959. With an area of 48.7 km², it is the largest dam and the largest body of water in the Czech Republic. The length of the outlet reaches 42 km. The widest is the reservoir at Černá in Pošumaví, where it spills up to 5 km. On the right bank it extends to the border with Austria.
The reservoir is an important location for recreational stays by the water, water sports and sport fishing. Many different resorts, hotels and campsites have been built here. In Lipno nad Vltavou a bobsleigh track, a rope park and an aquapark have been built. On the Kramolín hill there is the Lipno treetop trail. In addition to swimming, there are canoeing, sailing, catamaran rides, windsurfing, kiteboarding and paddleboarding. If the conditions are ideal in winter, ice skating is possible on the frozen surface. The longest skating track in the world is located here, which is just under 11 kilometres long. There is also skiing around Lipno, for example on the Kramolín hill, and there are many routes for cyclists.
